FAQ

We likely haven’t started streaming yet. The link brings you to our YouTube channel where we’ll be streaming each part of the event in real-time. When we’re live, that’s the place to be! Otherwise, the video will be saved within the YouTube channel after the event is streamed live.

Do I have to download an app in order to take part in the summit?

No, we really wanted to make this as easy for you as possible. Everyone will be sent a link to stream each engagement from. We just suggest reliable connectivity in order to optimize viewing/engagement.

Do I need to set up an account to access the summit?

No! There is no login or account required. You can either view anonymously or with a name/handle that is identifiable.

Who is this event for?

All are welcome to attend and learn from our incredible speakers, workshop leaders, and panelists. The summit will be geared towards cis and trans women, as well as people who experience gender discrimination in their outdoor professional and personal lives. We welcome all people who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women.

How are you creating a welcoming space for people who are not cis women and experience gender discimination in their outdoor professional and personal lives?

We’ve created community guidelines and will be briefing speakers, moderators, and panelists to encourage gender-inclusive language, including pronouns in introductions. All of our speakers and the majority of our panelists are cis women.

That said, we want to acknowledge our limitations. First, everyone planning the event are cis women. Second, while we’ll be sending out community guidelines, we can’t guarantee that they will be followed. Third, as excited as we are about this summit, it contains just 8 activations. Our hope is that the next Women’s Outdoor Summit will be held in person and will empower us to dive deeper into these topics, and also provide a greater representation of diversity in speakers, workshop leaders, and participants.

I saw that there will be land acknowledgements. What are these?

We are so grateful to Jaylyn Gough, founder of Native Women’s Wilderness, for facilitating land acknowledgements at the Virtual Women’s Outdoor Summit.

From the Duwamish Tribe website: “Land acknowledgement is a traditional custom dating back centuries for many Native communities and nations. For non-Indigenous communities, land acknowledgement is a powerful way of showing respect and honoring the Indigenous Peoples of the land on which we work and live. Acknowledgement is a simple way of resisting the erasure of Indigenous histories and working towards honoring and inviting the truth.”

You can learn more about what Indigenous land you are on by heading to Native-Land.ca. It is important to use the tool as a jumping off point to learn more about the land and its original and ongoing stewards.

Will there be ASL INTERPRETERS or captioning provided?

We’ll have ASL interpreters at every session. We are looking into whether captioning can be provided after the videos are uploaded – it is not currently a feature available in the streaming service we are using. The special podcast episode of She Explores will be published with a transcript.

Where can I find a schedule of the event?

Head to our eventbrite to register and you’ll gain access to a detailed schedule.

How can I interact with the speakers?

You’ll be able to send questions as comments via the platform we’re using! We’re opening up audience Q&As towards the end of most sessions.

How can I interact with the other event participants?

We’ve set up a Facebook Group community that all are welcome to join to continue the conversations started at the Women’s Outdoor Summit. Our hope is that you jump in during the sessions, ask each other questions, share learnings, and continue making connections!

I have an idea for a talk/workshop/panel! Who can I send it to?

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm for this event! We have finalized our schedule for the virtual summit March 11 – 13, but we will likely start planning the next event soon. Make sure to subscribe to our newsletter, we’ll notify you when submissions are open to participate in the next event!
